जांजगीर-चांपा जिले के बालोद गांव की रहवासी पैरों से दिव्यांग बेटी अंजली पटेल रिले रेस तैराकी में एशियन रिकॉर्ड बनाकर इतिहास रच दिया। पैरों से दिव्यांग अंजली ने समुद्र की लहरों को भेदकर शार्क और डॉल्फिन के बीच से गुजरकर यह मुकाम हासिल किया। अमेरिका के कैलिफोर्निया के सेंट कैटलिना आईलैंड से रैंचोस पोलोज वेरदेस तक 20.19 मील का रिले रेस संपन्न हुआ।
जिसमें देश भर के छह पैरा तैराको (अंजली पटेल छत्तीसगढ़, जगदीश चंद्र तेली राजस्थान, शैलेंद्र सिंह मध्यप्रदेश, रिमु शाहा बंगाल, गीतांजलि महाराष्ट्र) की इस टीम ने 35 किलोमीटर की दूरी 11 घंटे 46 मिनट 56 सेकंड में तैर कर पूरी की। फाइनल रिले रेस स्पर्धा कैटलीना आइलैंड से 18 अगस्त को रात 11 बजे रिले रेस शुरू हुई और 19 अगस्त को सुबह 10ः30 बजे 35 किलोमीटर का सफर मेनलैंड में खत्म हुई। अंजली ने बताया कि उस समय काफी ठंड थी, मगर सभी के हौसले इतने बुलंद थे कि हर मुसीबत को भेदने के लिए तैयार थे। एक ओर जहां समुद्र की लहरें बार-बार डुबा रही थीं, वहीं दूसरी ओर शार्क और डॉल्फिन का डर बना हुआ था। प्रत्येक तैराक को दो-दो घंटे समुद्र में तैरना था। दो घंटे में तीन किलोमीटर का सफर तय करना था। एक के थकने के बाद दूसरे को उतारा जाता था। अंजली तीसरे नंबर पर उतरीं और दो घंटे में तीन किलोमीटर का सफर पूरा किया। मालूम हो कि अंजली ने बताया कि रिकॉर्ड बनाने के पहले एक महीने तक पुणे डेक्कन जिम खाना में कैंप आयोजित किया गया, जिसमें कोच रोहन गोरे ने सभी को तैयार किया।
परिवारिक जिम्मेदारी को बखूबी निभाती है अंजली – अंजली के पिता बस में कंडक्टरी करते थे। परिवार की आर्थिक स्थिति अच्छी नहीं है। बिलासपुर में नौकरी शुरू करते ही अंजली ने अपने पिता को कंडक्टरी करने से रोक दिया। अंजली की कुल पांच बहन और एक भाई है। सभी की जिम्मेदारी अंजली ही उठा रही हैं।
