न्यूयॉर्क — भारत को आठवीं बार शक्तिशाली संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद का दो साल के लिये अस्थायी सदस्य चुन लिया गया है। भारत को कुल 193 सदस्यीय महासभा में 184 वोट मिले हैं। कुल 193 सदस्यों वाले संयुक्त राष्ट्रमें भारत को जीत के लिये दो-तिहाई यानि 128 देशों के समर्थन की जरूरत थी। सदस्य देश सीक्रेट बैलेट से वोटिंग करते हैं। भारत का कार्यकाल 01 जनवरी 2021 से शुरू होगा। भारत आठवीं बार सुरक्षा परिषद का अस्थाई सदस्य चुना गया है। इसके पहले1950-51, 1967-68, 1972-73, 1977-78, 1984-85, 1991-92 और 2011-12 में भारत यह जिम्मेदारी निभा चुका है।
संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद में कुल 15 देश हैं। इनमें पांँच स्थायी सदस्य हैं , ये हैं-अमेरिका, रूस, फ्रांस, ब्रिटेन और चीन। और दस देशों को अस्थाई सदस्यता दी गयी है। हर साल पांँच अस्थायी सदस्य चुने जाते हैं जिनका कार्यकाल दो साल होता है। भारत के निर्विरोध चुने जाने पर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने ट्वीट कर कहा है कि यूएन सिक्योरिटी काउंसिल में भारत की अस्थाई सदस्यता के लिए दुनियाँ ने समर्थन और सहयोग दिया। मैं उनका आभार प्रकट करता हूंँ। भारत सभी के सहयोग से अंतर्राष्ट्रीय शांति, सुरक्षा और बराबरी के लिए काम करेगा।वे वैश्विक समुदाय द्वारा भारत को दिये गये समर्थन के लिये अत्यंत आभारी हैंं।
