विपक्ष ने साफ कर दिया था कि NDA की तरफ से उम्मीदवार के ऐलान के बाद ही नाम पर विचार किया जाएगा। साथ ही INDIA गठबंधन ने पहले ही संयुक्त उम्मीदवार उतारने की योजना बनाई थी। इस संबंध में सोमवार शाम कांग्रेस के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे के आवास पर बैठक भी हुई थी, लेकिन नाम का ऐलान मंगलवार को किया गया।
