नई दिल्ली, 21 मार्च, 2024। अंतरराष्ट्रीय वन दिवस के अवसर पर भारत की सबसे बड़ी एल्यूमिनियम उत्पादक कंपनी वेदांता एल्यूमिनियम ने छत्तीसगढ़ व ओडिशा में अपने प्रचालन क्षेत्रों के भीतर व आसपास पर्यावरण संरक्षण हेतु कंपनी के प्रयासों की घोषणा की। जैव विविधता को संरक्षित व प्रोत्साहित करने की रणनीति हेतु कंपनी समर्पित है। कंपनी ने रिक्लेमेशन प्रक्रिया के तहत अपने पांच ऐश डाइक पर वनीकरण का काम सफलतापूर्वक पूरा किया है। छत्तीसगढ़ के कोरबा जिले में स्थित भारत एल्यूमिनियम कंपनी लिमिटेड कंपनी (बालको) के ये ऐश डाइक्स अपनी पूरी क्षमता तक पहुंच जाने के कारण बंद हो चुके थे। 150 हेक्टेयर से अधिक क्षेत्रफल के इलाके में लगभग 2 लाख पौधे लगाए गए हैं। इस पहल के तहत ऐसी जमीन में जहां पहले जंगल न रहा हो उसमें भी सतत सुधार की गुंजाइश को अपनाया जा सकता है।
फ्लाई ऐश एक हाई-वॉल्यूम, लो-इफेक्ट बायप्रोडक्ट होता है जो थर्मल पावर के उत्पादन में निकलता है। फ्लाई ऐश का इस्तेमाल सर्कुलर इकॉनॉमी में होता है नतीजतन ऐश स्टोरेज एरिया का वनीकरण किया जा सकता है। रिक्लेमेशन प्रक्रिया के तहत ऐश डाइक्स को कई अवस्थाओं से गुजरना होता है जिनमें मिट्टी का आवरण, स्थिरीकरण, वन पारिस्थितिकी विकसित करने के लिए लैंडस्केपिंग, मूल वृक्ष प्रजातियों का रोपण व निरंतर निगरानी शामिल होते हैं। इन कोशिशों के फलस्वरूप यह इलाका कई स्थानीय पेड़-पौधों की किस्मों जैसे करंज, शीशम, नीम, अमसोल व गुलमोहर वृक्षों का घर बन गया है। कंपनी द्वारा लगाए गए इन पेड़ों की बदौलत यहां जैव विविधता फल-फूल रही है।
ओडिशा के झारसुगुड़ा मे कंपनी का मेगा एल्यूमिनियम प्लांट है। वेदांता एल्यूमिनियम ने जिले में अतिसंवेदनशील वृक्ष प्रजातियों जैसे क्लोरोक्सिलॉन स्विटेनिया का रोपण किया है। इसके अलावा जामखानी कोयला खदानों (सुदंरगढ़, ओडिशा) के करीब पहली बार अनूठी मियावाकी पद्धति के जरिए गहन वनीकरण शुरु किया गया है। फलस्वरूप यहां 8000 से अधिक वृक्षों का आत्मनिर्भर समूह पनपेगा। इनमें अनेक फलदार प्रजातियां होंगी। विभिन्न पहले के माध्यम से कंपनी सतत विकास लक्ष्य 13-क्लाईमेट एक्शन और 15-लाईफ ऑन लैंड की प्राप्ति हेतु काम कर रही है।
वेदांता एल्यूमिनियम ने पारिस्थितिक प्रयासों को तेज करने के लिए अपने सभी प्रचालनों में व्यापक जैव विविधता प्रबंधन योजना (बीएमपी) को लागू किया है। बीएमपी कंपनी के संयंत्रों के करीब जैव विविधता के संरक्षण व संवर्धन का रोडमैप है। सभी क्षेत्रों में व्यापक जैव विविधता संरक्षण अध्ययन भी किए गए हैं ताकि वर्ष 2030 तक जैव विविधता पर नेट पॉज़िटिव इम्पैक्ट (एनपीआई) हासिल किया जा सके। बीएमपी की वृद्धि के लिए कंपनी ने प्रतिष्ठित पर्यावरणीय परामर्शक फर्म ईआरएम इंडिया के साथ साझेदारी की है।

अंतरराष्ट्रीय वन दिवस के मौके पर कंपनी ने स्थानीय जैव विविधता के संरक्षण हेतु अपने कर्मचारियों व समुदाय के लोगों को जागरुक बनाने के उद्देश्य से कई कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए। इनमें झारसुगुडा, ओडिशा के प्रभागीय वन अधिकारियों के सहयोग से स्कूली विद्यार्थियों के लिए ’वन एवं नवाचारः बेहतर दुनिया हेतु नए समाधान’ विषय पर जागरुकता सत्र का आयोजन भी शामिल थे।
कोरबा में बालको ने अपनी टाउनशिप में फलदार वृक्षों के बगीचे लगाए हैं जिनमें इमली, आम, अमरूद, शरीफा व जामुन के लगभग 200 पेड़ हैं। कंपनी की पहल ’मोर जल, मोर माटी’ के अंतर्गत कंपनी ने आसपास के समुदायों में आम के 11 बगीचे लगाए हैं जिनमें 2300 पेड़ हैं। वेदांता एग्रीकल्चर रिसोर्स सेंटर छोटे किसानों को तेजी से बढ़ने वाले दीमक-प्रतिरोधी फलवृक्ष लगाने की तकनीकी जानकारी देता है। इसके अलावा नजदीकी जंगलों व झरनों के पास गहन सफाई अभियान चलाया गया।
लांजीगढ़, ओडिशा स्थित वेदांता एल्यूमिनियम की विश्व स्तरीय एल्यूमिना रिफाइनरी में समुदाय के लोगों को फलों के 200 से अधिक पौधे बांटे गए। कंपनी की खनन इकाई में कर्मचारियों ने एक फोटोग्राफी प्रतियोगिता में भाग लिया जिसका लक्ष्य था अपने आसपास प्राकृतिक जगत की तस्वीरें लेना। इनके साथ ही प्रकृति पर वृत्तचित्रों की स्क्रीनिंग की गई और स्थानीय समुदायों की सक्रिय सहभागिता से वृक्षारोपण अभियान चलाया गया।
