अहमदाबाद — कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच दो दिवसीय भारत दौरे पर अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप अहमदाबाद एयरपोर्ट पहुँचे। जहां पर पीएम मोदी ने प्रोटोकॉल तोड़कर उन्हें गला लगातर स्वागत किया। उनके साथ फर्स्ट लेडी मेलानिया ट्रंप और अमेरिकी राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार रॉबर्ट ओब्रायन, वाणिज्य मंत्री विलबर रॉस, ऊर्जा मंत्री डैन ब्रोइलेट समेत अन्य 12 सदस्यीय प्रतिनिधिमंडल के सदस्य हैं। ट्रंप के पहुंचने से करीब घंटा भर पहले पीएम मोदी एयरपोर्ट पहुंच चुके थे। ट्रंप के स्वागत के लिये रेड कारपेट बिछाया गया था।एयरपोर्ट पर गुजराती संस्कृति की झलक भी देखने को मिली और कलाकारों ने परफॉर्म किया। अहमदाबाद एयरपोर्ट से निकलने के बाद राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप और पीएम मोदी रोड शो करते हुए 22 किलोमीटर का सफर तय कर साबरमती आश्रम पहुंँचे। अब आगे मोटेरा में ‘नमस्ते ट्रंप’ कार्यक्रम होने जा रहा है, जहां पर राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप संबोधित करेंगे।

अहमदाबाद — अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप और उनकी पत्नी मेलानिया ट्रंप ने अपने भारत दौरे की शुरुआत अहमदाबाद स्थिति साबरमती आश्रम से किया। एयरपोर्ट से रोड शो करते हुये वे साबरमती आश्रम पहुँचे। जहाँ उन्हें खादी अंगवस्त्र दिया गया जिसे जिन्होंने धारण किया। आश्रम पहुँचकर ट्रंप ने मोदी को नमन किया और श्रद्धांजलि दी। इस दौरान पीएम मोदी एक-एक चीज अतिथियों को समझाते हुये नजर आये। ट्रंप और मेलानिया ने जब चरखा चलाने की इच्छा जाहिर की तो पीएम मोदी ने उन्हें समझाया कि इससे कैसे सूत काता जाता है। ये देखकर कई लोगों को हैरानी भी हुई।
ट्रंप और मेलानिया ने चरखा चलाया और फिर पूरे आश्रम का भ्रमण किया। ट्रंप यह देखकर काफी प्रभावित हुए कि गांधीजी कितने साधारण जीवन जीते थे।’ आश्रम से निकलने से पहले उन्होंने विजिटर्स बुक में प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के लिये संदेश लिखा। ट्रंप ने लिखा, ‘मेरे महान दोस्त प्रधानमंत्री मोदी का इस शानदार यात्रा के लिए शुक्रिया।’ हालांकि परंपरा यह रही है कि जब भी कोई हस्ती गांधी आश्रम आता है तो वह महात्मा गांधी, उनके संघर्ष या उनकी शख्सियत के बारे में दो शब्द जरूर लिखता है। लेकिन अमेरिका राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप ने यह रिकॉर्ड तोड़ डाला। ट्रंप को आश्रम की ओर से कुछ उपहार दिये गये। इनमें महात्मा गांधी जी की बायोग्राफी, एक चरखा, तीन बंदरों वाली मार्बल की मूर्ति (बुरा न देखो, बुरा न कहो और बुरा न सुनो की प्रतीक) शामिल है।
