लद्दाख — सोमवार की रात लद्दाख में बातचीत करने पहुँची भारत की सेना पर चीन की सेना ने हमला कर दिया। इसमें भारत के कमांडिंग ऑफिसर समेत 20 सैनिक शहीद हो गये। तीन घंटे चली यह झड़प दुनियाँ की दो एटमी ताकतों के बीच लद्दाख में 14 हजार फीट ऊंची गालवन वैली में हुई। उसी गालवन वैली में, जहां 1962 की जंग में 33 भारतीय जवान शहीद हुये थे।
हालांकि इस झड़प से चीन के भी 43 सैनिकों के हताहत होने की खबर है लेकिन चीन ने यह बात कबूला नही है। पहले तो भारतीय सेना ने झड़प से शहीद होने वाले जवानों में कर्नल बी० संतोष बाबू, 16 बिहार रेजिमेंट के कमांडिंग ऑफिसर, 81 फील्ड रेजिमेंट के हवलदार के पलानी और 16 बिहार रेजिमेंट के हवलदार सुनील कुमार झा की पुष्टि की थी। फिर मंगलवार की देर रात भारतीय सेना ने बताया कि लाइन ऑफ ड्यूटी के दौरान भारत के 17 सैनिक गंभीर रूप से घायल हुए थे। वे शून्य से भी कम टेम्परेचर में हाई एल्टीट्यूडवाले इलाकों में थे। इस वजह से उनकी जान चली गई और कुल शहीदों की संख्या 20 हो चुकी है। चीन रुक-रुककर भारतीय सैनिकों के शव भेज रहा है।
