आदिवासियों के दशकों से काम कर रहे दिल्ली यूनिवर्सिटी के रिटायर्ड प्रोफेसर डॉ पीडी खैरा का अपोलो अस्पताल में सोमवार को निधन हो गया हैं। डॉ खैरा लंबे समय से बीमार थे। डॉ खैरा बीते 25 वर्ष से अधिक समय से अचानकमार के आदिवासी बाहुल्य क्षेत्र में बच्चों को शिक्षित कर रहे थे। गांधीवादी प्रोफेसर पी डी खेरा अपने पेंशन की राशि से बैगा बच्चों को नि:शुल्क शिक्षा दीक्षा देने में लगे हुए थे।
बता दें, कि प्रोफेसर खेरा, देश की राजधानी दिल्ली की यूनिवर्सिटी की चकाचौंध छोड़कर आदिवासियों की जीवनशैली बदलने के लिए नौकरी के बाद 1985 से बिलासपुर से तकरीबन 80 किलोमीटर दूर अचानकमार आकर बस गए। यहां वे आदिवासी बच्चों को पढ़ाते थे। लोगों को शिक्षा के प्रति जागरूक करते रहे। वे कहते थे, कि आदिवासियों के जीवन में बड़े बदलाव की जरूरत नहीं है, बस उन्हें सिखाना है, कि साफ-सफाई क्या है। डॉ. खेरा वनग्राम लमनी में आदिवासियों की तरह ही झोपड़ी में रहते थे।
