अहमदाबाद — गुजरात के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री और राज्य के दिग्गज नेता केशुभाई पटेल (92 वर्ष) का निधन हो गया। देश भर के दिग्गज नेताओं ने उनके निधन पर शोक व्यक्त कर उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि दी है। आज सुबह सांस लेने में तकलीफ होने के बाद उन्हें अस्पताल ले जाया गया, जहांँ उन्होंने अंतिम सांस ली। कुछ समय पहले ही वे कोरोना पॉजिटिव पाये गये थे, हालांकि उन्होंने कोरोना को मात दे दी थी। लेकिन उसके बाद भी उनकी तबीयत लगातार बिगड़ती जा रही थी। केशुभाई पटेल ने दो बार 1995 और 1998 में गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री का पद संभाला था, लेकिन 2001 में उन्हें पद से इस्तीफा देना पड़ा था। हालांकि, दोनों ही बार केशुभाई पटेल अपने कार्यकाल को पूरा नहीं कर पाये थे। इसके अलावा केशुभाई पटेल गुजरात के उपमुख्यमंत्री का भी पद संभाल चुके हैं। वर्ष 2001 में मुख्यमंत्री पद से उनके इस्तीफा देने के बाद ही नरेंद्र मोदी गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री बने थे और 2014 तक राज्य में सत्ता के केंद्र में रहे। केशुभाई पटेल का जन्म जूनागढ़ में 24 जुलाई 1928 को हुआ था, काफी कम उम्र में ही उन्होंने राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ ज्वाइन कर लिया था. जिसके बाद जनसंघ और फिर बीजेपी के साथ लंबे वक्त तक रहे।
गुजरात में भारतीय जनता पार्टी के दिग्गज नेता केशुभाई पटेल की गिनती गुजरात में भारतीय जनता पार्टी के दिग्गज नेताओं में होती रही है, जिन्होंने जनसंघ के वक्त से ही पार्टी के लिये काम किया था। राज्य में भाजपा की ओर से पहले सीएम भी केशुभाई पटेल ही थे. प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने भी केशुभाई पटेल के साथ लंबे वक्त तक काम किया और अक्सर नरेंद्र मोदी, केशुभाई पटेल का आशीर्वाद लेने के लिये जाते थे। भाजपा में अनबन होने के कारण केशुभाई पटेल ने 2012 में अपनी नई पार्टी बनाई थी, जिसका नाम गुजरात परिवर्तन पार्टी रखा था। हालांकि, 2014 में केशुभाई पटेल ने अपनी पार्टी का विलय फिर से भाजपा में कर दिया था। अभी 30 सितंबर को ही सोमनाथ मंदिर ट्रस्ट के वे दोबारा अध्यक्ष चुने गये थे।
