महाविद्यालय में प्रवेश प्रारंभ,विश्वविद्यालयीन पाठ्यक्रम के साथ मूल्य-वर्धित लघु अवधि के पाठ्यक्रम भी संचालित किए जाने की योजना
दुर्ग. महाविद्यालय में प्रवेश प्रारंभ शासकीय आदर्श महाविद्यालय दुर्ग की स्थापना सन् 2015 में उच्च शिक्षा विभाग छत्तीसगढ़ शासन उच्च शिक्षा विभाग द्वारा की गई। स्थापना के बाद सत्र 2022-23 तक यह महाविद्यालय दुर्ग जिले के अग्रणी महाविद्यालय, शासकीय वि.या.ता. स्नातकोत्तर स्वशासी महाविद्यालय के परिसर में संचालित होता रहा। नवीन भवन के निर्माण के पश्चात् शासन के निर्देशानुसार 7 अक्टूबर 2022 से नवनिर्मित परिसर में स्थानांतरित किया जाकर संचालित हो रहा है। प्रथमतः केवल बी.एस-सी. कंप्यूटर विज्ञान की कक्षा में ही अध्यापन प्रारंभ किया गया था। पिछले सत्र 2022-23 से बी.एस-सी. जीव विज्ञान, बी.एस-सी. गणित, बी.सी.ए. एवं बी. कॉम. कंप्यूटर एप्लीकेशन की कक्षाएँ भी संचालित की जा रहीं हैं। पिछले सत्र में इस महाविद्यालय में 272 विद्यार्थी अध्ययनरत थे। बढ़ती हुई कक्षाओं की संख्या के साथ इस सत्र में यहाँ लगभग 200 से अधिक विद्यार्थी प्रवेश ले चुके हैं। शेष रिक्त सीटों पर प्रवेश की प्रक्रिया जारी है। शासन द्वारा इस महाविद्यालय में सहायक प्राध्यापकों के बारह पद स्वीकृत किए गए हैं, जिनमें नौ पदों पर नियमित पदस्थापना की जा चुकी है। उसी प्रकार तृतीय श्रेणी कर्मचारियों के नौ तथा चतुर्थ श्रेणी कर्मचारियों के तेरह पद स्वीकृत हैं जिनमें मात्र एक पद पर लिपिक की पदस्थापना की गई है, शेष पद रिक्त हैं। वर्तमान में कंप्यूटर विज्ञान प्रयोगशाला, प्राणी विज्ञान प्रयोगशाला, वनस्पति विज्ञान प्रयोगशाला, भौतिक शास्त्र प्रयोगशाला तथा रसायन विज्ञान प्रयोगशाला आधुनिकतम उपकरणों से सुसज्जित है। सूचना तकनीकी के माध्यम से अध्यापन हेतु एक स्मार्ट बोर्ड युक्त स्मार्ट क्लास तथा तीन इंटर एक्टिव फ्लॅट पैनल युक्त कक्षों में अध्यापन कार्य किया जा रहा है। बालकों के निवास हेतु 100 सीटर छात्रावास निर्मित हो चुका है तथा बालिका छात्रावास का निर्माण प्रगति पर है। सत्र 2023-24 से इस महाविद्यालय को पूर्णतः अंग्रेजी माध्यम महाविद्यालय के रूप में संचालित किए जाने हेतु निर्देश प्राप्त हुए हैं तथा इसका नाम परिवर्तित कर स्वामी आत्मानंद शासकीय आदर्श अंग्रेजी माध्यम महाविद्यालय दुर्ग कर दिया गया है। आगामी सत्र से लागू होने वाली नई शिक्षा नीति के अनुरूप बहु-विधात्मक दृष्टिकोण क्रियान्वित करने के लिए प्रयास आरंभ किए जा रहे हैं। महाविद्यालय के लिए यह एक गौरव का क्षण था जब इस सत्र में महाविद्यालय की बी-एस.सी. भाग एक की छात्र कु. वर्षा यादव ने विश्वविद्यालयीन युवा उत्सव में पोस्टर प्रतियोगिता में संपूर्ण विश्वविद्यालय में प्रथम स्थान प्राप्त करते हुए बैंगलोर में आयोजित अंतर विश्वविद्यालयीन युवा उत्सव में भागीदारी की। शिक्षा को रोजगार परक बनाने के लिए सामान्य विश्वविद्यालयीन पाठ्यक्रम के साथ साथ मूल्य-वर्धित लघु अवधि के पाठ्यक्रम भी संचालित किए जाने की योजना है, ताकि विद्यार्थी कौशल उन्नयन के लिए प्रेरित हों। शासन की महत्वाकांक्षी आदर्श महाविद्यालयों की योजना में अग्रणी स्थान प्राप्त करने के लिए महाविद्यालय परिवार प्रतिबद्ध है और निरंतर प्रयासरत है।
